He actively collaborates with different departments of the teachin Hospital and the IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute to ensure proper training of future MD’s, DMD’s and RN’s and coordinates the activities of the postgraduate school in Radiology as well as the International PhD course in Clinical and Experimental Medicine. Extensive experience in Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and teaching are Francesco’s main characteristics as MD and Professor. Active part of the Hospital’s multidisciplinary decision- making groups as diagnostic reference radiologist, he has always been involved in clinical practice, research and development of non-invasive imaging tools. His scientific research is mainly focused on detection and characterization of oncological imaging, the use of imaging as a non-invasive biomarker for the evaluation of treatment response (esophageal malignancies), cardiovascular imaging and Interventional Radiology. The Unit he leads is an Italian reference center for interventional procedures in oncology as well as in emergency settings. In the recent past, he has been involved in the validation of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms as add-on quantitative tools in aiding diagnosis and describing diseases on X-ray and CT scans as well as texture analysis as add on quantitative evaluation to characterize tumor heterogeneity The COVID pandemic has seen him in first line as the Institution’s coordinator of the diagnostic activities and as sponsor additional quantitative evaluation tools of to accurately describe lung involvement, quantitively track changes of disease progression and treatment response patients. Principal investigator based on expertise and invited local investigator in researcher driven and Sponsor driven clinical studies. Invited Speaker in more than 100 national and international meetings, he is author of 269 scientific articles in national and international journals with 7799 citations and h-index of 44 (Scopus; 01.05.2021); has published a book on magnetic resonance imaging and contributed to over 40 book chapters. According to a recent adjournment published by PLOS Biology in 2020, has been ranked in the top 2% of Top Scientists worldwide in their research field (Imaging).
